China’s Shanxi to fine those who spit in public

CHINA’S Shanxi province has moved to improve public health and cleanlines­s, reported Sin Chew Daily.

Those who spit in public will be fined beginning June 1.

Those caught can be fined as much as 500 yuan (RM306).

According to the new law that contains 18 sections, offenders will be asked to clean up the saliva on the spot, or be fined according to the venue where the offence was committed.

For example, the offender will be fined 100 yuan (RM61) to 200 yuan (RM122) if the offence took place outdoors, 200 yuan to 300 yuan (RM183) it happened indoors, and 300 yuan to 500 yuan if it was committed on public transport, lifts or confined spaces.
