No starters, Pahang’s Goulon wants the full course

Pahang’s burly centreback Herold Goulon (pic) said Malaysia’s Super League should complete it’s full course of two rounds instead of just one.

The Malaysia Football League (MFL) have decided that this year’s Super League tournament, disrupted by the Covid-19 outbreak, will resume with only seven matches instead of the normal two-round home and away format.

They also decided that conditional training will resume in August and the Malaysia Cup will be a knockout competition.

The 31-year-old Goulon, a former

Blackburn Rovers and Middlesbrough player who joined Pahang in January last year, said it was unfair to contest the league over seven matches.

“It does not make sense to shorten the league. I do not think it is a big issue if we finish the season later than expected.

“At least one of the two competitions – Malaysia Cup or Super League – has to be played fully, finishing in late November or early December.”

Goulon misses training although the gangly centreback works out with teammates Nigerian striker Dickson Nwakaeme and Lebanese centreback Khalil Khamis in their shared apartment.

“Since the MCO, I’ve been working out five days a week. Not easy, but I’ve kept going until today. My fitness is good, I’m not too worried about it.”

Very much at home after a year with the team, Goulon is particularly happy with coach Dollah Salleh who looks into the players’ welfare during the quarantine period.

“He advises us to take care of ourselves and makes sure that our families are alright.

“I miss football and can’t wait to start playing. Right now, I will start watching the Bundesliga (which resumed on Saturday) although I did not watch it in the past.”
