Wan Saiful: Sack Bersatu MPs who sat with Opposition

-

PETALING JAYA: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia lawmakers who sat in the Opposition bloc should have their membership revoked automatically, says supreme council member Wan Saiful Wan Jan.

He expressed regret that there was a group of Bersatu lawmakers who chose to sit in a different place.

“Each party has its own rules and all members must respect them.

“In the party’s constitution, those who sit with the Opposition can cause their membership to be revoked automatically.

“It is not a disciplinary action, but automatic revocation,” he said in a statement.

Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad for the first time in his political career sat in the Opposition bench along with four other Bersatu lawmakers during the opening of the Parliament meeting on Monday.

Dr Mahathir’s status as Bersatu chairman is also in question after the Registrar of Societies, in a letter dated May 5, stated that Dr Mahathir’s resignation came into effect immediately and the position would be held by party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin until the next party election.

“In line with the spirit of rule of law, the party must urgently review all of their membership status without fear or favour,” said Wan Saiful.

“Let us not create an ‘elite class’ that can reject party discipline openly. This can be cancerous and destroy the party.

“Don’t be arrogant and feel like they are above others to the point of refusing to sit with the party’s bloc.

“The party will be destroyed if these leaders have self-interest, without caring about the impact of their actions on public perception of the party,” he said.
