Li Jane remains single-minded about Hong Kong meet

-

National bowler Sin Li Jane is not one to be fazed by adversity – and there has been no adversity like the Covid-19 pandemic.

Li Jane had been so looking forward to the 26th Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships in Hong Kong, the tournament at which she won gold in trios, silver in team and three bronzes for singles, doubles and all events last year.

This year’s championship, scheduled for July 4-14, has been pushed to Nov 13-23 but Li Jane is not unnerved by the move.

The girl from Ipoh aims to be on the podium for all the events she takes part in Hong Kong.

Li Jane, who has participated in four Asian Championships since 2012, has won a total of four golds, three silvers and six bronzes.

“For now, the Asian Championships is still on the list. Hopefully, the event will go on as scheduled, but it all depends on the pandemic situation,” she said.

“I have been doing home exercises that involves bowling movement such as one-step and five steps to keep up the momentum and not lose the ability to swing the ball.

“I am doing mental visualisation, which is being emphasised daily by our coaches. Motivationwise, I still feel good and I am not feeling any effects of the lockdown. When the MCO is lifted, I will be all pumped up to strive for more.”

For now, Li Jane is coping well at home as she keeps herself busy by learning how to cook and bake, doing home workouts and studying online.

She also said coach Holloway Cheah had always reminded them to stay home and be healthy.

However, being a true bowling man, he always tells the girls to be ready to get back on the lanes.

“I have learned that it is essential to stay healthy and spend time with family as much as you can. Nothing is permanent so do your best every day.

“Bowling wise, the most major important events have been rescheduled. I am still going to stay focused and be ready. The competitions will come soon, so you still need to keep your mojo going.”
