Wee: New norm not a hindrance to celebrating Raya

-

The new norm adopted in battling Covid-19 is not a hindrance for Malaysians to celebrate this year’s Hari Raya, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The Transport Minister and MCA president said the government cared for the rakyat and was serious in safeguarding their health and safety.

“The beginning of 2020 is certainly different from previous years due to Covid-19,” he said in his Hari Raya message on his Facebook page.

“But it’s not a hindrance for us to celebrate this very special holiday.

“It’s just that the way we celebrate may be slightly different from previous years.

“In any case, the government of today is very sensitive and concerned about what is happening, and is very serious about the people’s welfare.

“Believe me, whatever the decision, it is for one reason only – to protect the interests of the people and the nation,” he said in the video which also featured

Dendang Perantau, a popular Raya song by the late Tan Sri P. Ramlee.

He said the people could still cherish this celebration with gratefulness as well as with moderation, despite celebrating it amid a pandemic.

“Stay safe, stay at home and we will be able to break this chain of infection,” Dr Wee said, adding that the country would prevail in the battle against Covid-19 together.

“May all Malaysian citizens from different races, background and beliefs, share a stronger bond.

“Selamat Hari Raya, maaf zahir dan batin to all the Muslims in the country.”
