Rukun Tetangga to patrol green zones

The Rukun Tetangga neighbourhood watch is being roped in to help keep Covid19 at bay in the green zones, says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The Special Ministerial Committee has agreed to allow the Rukun Tetangga (neighbourhood watch) to carry out voluntary patrols.

“We welcome this as the Rukun Tetangga plays an important role in empowering the local community in ensuring that the green zones remain safe,” he said at his daily press conference on Covid-19 in Putrajaya.

Areas with zero cases of Covid-19 are classified as green zones.

On Hari Raya festivities, Ismail Sabri said he was aware that some were unhappy that they would not be able to celebrate the occasion unlike in previous years owing to the movement control order.

“The restrictions are important to safeguard the well-being of everyone; they are not meant to cause any hardship,” he said.

He reminded those celebrating the festivities to follow social distancing guidelines to avoid running foul of the law.

“I do not want to see anyone being compounded, arrested or hauled to court during this festive period,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri urged employers to conduct job interviews online as was the new norm among some companies in Malaysia and abroad.

He also reminded those who had to report for work in their new jobs in other states to obtain permission to travel from the police.

On the situation at the Bukit Jalil and Semenyih detention centres, Ismail Sabri said all 114 prison guards and staff members had tested negative for Covid-19.

He was responding to concerns over new clusters detected at the detention centres two days ago.
