Where there’s a wheel, there’s a way for Hafizh

-

HAFIZH Syahrin Abdullah has been racing without any salary this year and thus it means more for him to celebrate the Hari Raya holidays without any fanfare.

Hafizh is celebrating with his wife Noor Suzana Abdul Manaf for the first time in his Kuala Lumpur home.

“We cannot travel outside Kuala Lumpur this year so I will spend Raya with my wife.

“In previous years, I was always in the midst of racing abroad or preparing for a race weekend and could not celebrate.

“There are a lot of people suffering out there and we should be grateful to still be able to celebrate with our families,” said Hafizh, who is riding for Team Aspar in Moto2 after moving down from the premier class.

Hafizh, who married

Noor Suzana in December 2017, has already made a return to the tarmac but on a different set of wheels.

Outdoor cycling is among the sports that have been allowed to resume and he did his first morning ride during Ramadan, behind a pacer on a motor-cycle.

“I managed to cover 46km with an average speed of 35kmph.

“It was just a moderate effort but it feels harder because you can’t sip any liquid when you are fasting. But if there is a will, there is always a way,” said Hafizh, who was earlier cycling on a stationary bike at home.

He is a keen cyclist and even competed in the Tour de Selangor last year. For now, though, he is waiting for the MotoGP to restart, hopefully with two rounds at the Jerez Circuit in July.
