Police arrest six for drug trafficking in Penang
They thought they could avoid detection by the authorities by stashing some 39,000 pil kuda in the ceiling of a shopping mall in Perai Jaya where they were working.
But the police got the better of them.
Two security guards of the mall and four others were arrested for allegedly being involved in drug trafficking.
Six of them, aged between 25 and 58, were picked up in four separate raids that lasted for seven hours beginning 6pm on Saturday.
Besides the seizure at the mall, police also recovered 2.5g of syabu, 2.1g of heroin and about 800 pil kuda (made from a type of methamphetamine drug) from the other raids.
The seizure is said to be worth about RM400,000 in the market.
North Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm Noorzainy Mohd Noor said the success was the result of a twoweek surveillance and intelligence works carried out by the narcotics police team from the North and South Seberang Prai districts.
He said initial investigations showed they were members of a drug syndicate who get their supplies from other drug syndicates.
“They hid the drugs they purchased in the ceiling of the shopping mall before selling them around the area for the past six months,” he said during a press conference at the north Seberang Prai headquarters yesterday.
“We are still looking for several other members who are still at large.”
ACP Noorzainy said the suspects would be remanded for seven days to help in investigations.
“The fifth suspect led us to the drugs stashed in the ceiling while the sixth is believed to be the brains of the syndicate,” he said.
