Inbound and outbound traffic from the Klang Valley is expected to see an increase in volume as many people are making their balik kampung journey with the government lifting the interstate travel ban under the recovery movement control order (MCO).

City Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Asst Comm Zulkefly Yahya said they expected to see more traffic both ways from the North, South and East.

“Our men will be deployed to all the entry points into the Klang Valley to ensure smooth traffic.

“Motorists should also abide by the law as policemen will not hesitate to take action against those who flout the traffic rules and regulations,” he said.

Selangor Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Azman Shariat said his men would be on duty at the borders as well as at rest and service areas (R&R) along the highways.

“We will be at the R&Rs to ensure motorists abide by the rules and regulations pertaining to the recovery MCO, practise social distancing and follow the standard operating procedures announced by the government.”

He said policemen would also be stationed along the state border near Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor and Sepang.

ACP Zulkefly and Supt Azman advised drivers to get adequate rest and check their vehicles before making their journeys.

“Accidents occur mainly because of three factors – human error, vehicle malfunction and road conditions.”

They urged drivers to stop and rest at the nearest rest areas if they are tired.

PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) also anticipates a surge in traffic along its highways.

In a statement on Friday, the highway concessionaire introduced the PLUS Texting Realtime Interface (Putri), a customer engagement chatbot to respond to queries that are general in nature with regards to highway travel.

Users can engage with Putri through the free PLUS app available for download on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
