People limit at private gatherings still on

-

The limit imposed on the number of people at private gatherings is still in force during the recovery movement control order (MCO) period, says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The Senior Minister said the government had allowed those celebrating Hari Raya Aidilfitri last month to gather as long as it did not exceed more than 20 people at a time and for only one day.

“So there should not be other celebrations after the first day. Social distancing, personal hygiene, wearing of mask and washing of hands must all be practised.

“If the place is small, then the number of people allowed is lower.

“I know many people have returned to their hometowns but the SOP remains,” he said in his daily briefing yesterday.

Ismail Sabri was responding to questions on the number of people allowed to gather now that interstate travel is allowed and in light of Hari Raya Aidiladha in July.

He said it was everyone’s responsibility to ensure the safety of their family members, community and themselves, adding that people should be mindful of children and senior citizens since they were considered high-risk groups.

He added that there should not be many people gathering in confined spaces.

Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri said he had received feedback from the police that all mosques and surau in the Federal Territory, which reopened on Friday, had followed the standard operating procedure (SOP).

“I believe if everyone continues to follow the SOP, then there is a possibility of opening up more mosques and surau not just in the Federal Territory but also in other states,” he said.
