Asia Talent Cup and Superbike C’ship in Sepang postponed
PETALING JAYA: The first round of the Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup (ATC) in Sepang has been postponed indefinitely due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The event was scheduled to take place together with Malaysia Superbike Championship (MSBK) at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) from Aug 7-9.
However, the current restrictions on hosting events imposed by the Malaysian government has forced the MSBK and the ATC to postpone their events.
“If the original dates for the MSBK and the ATC rounds are postponed or held at a later date, the ATC could be rescheduled to be run together with the MSBK,” stated the organisers in the ATC website.
“As the situation remains in a state of constant evolution, any further calendar changes or updates cannot be confirmed until it becomes clearer when exactly it will be possible to organise the events.”
The Covid-19 situation had earlier raised questions over the Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix which is scheduled from Oct 30-Nov 1 at the SIC.
MotoGP promoters, Dorna Sports has also confirmed recently that any races to be held this year will only take place after mid-November.
Dorna has dropped the Japanese Grand Prix from the calendar. The race in Motegi, the sixth event to be officially cancelled, was due to be held on Oct 16-18 in between the Thailand (Oct 2-4) and the Malaysia legs (Oct 30-Nov 1).
The Malaysia and Thailand legs could be called off or organised behind closed door, similar to the races in Europe.
