Huge boost for Gavin
Gavin is new ambassador for German luxury fashion house
Malaysia’s No. 1 golfer Gavin Kyle Green gets a timely push ahead of the European Tour play resumption next month after he was unveiled as German luxury fashion house Hugo Boss’ brand ambassador. Gavin will return for his first tournament in over four months at the British Masters.
PETALING Malaysia’s golf hotshot Gavin Kyle Green has been handed a major morale boost ahead of the European Tour play resumption next month.
The 26-year-old has been unveiled as Hugo Boss’ brand ambassador, making him the first Malaysian to sign for the renowned German luxury fashion house.
Signing on a two-year deal, Gavin will now stand tall alongside other Hugo Boss-sponsored golfers such as Major winners Henrik Stenson of Sweden and Martin Kaymer of Germany.
Hugo Boss is also the sponsor of some of the European football giants – Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Paris St Germain.
Gavin has started endorsing the brand since the beginning of the year, but the official introduction was only made on Friday due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
In fact, Gavin has swiftly repaid his new sponsor’s faith in him by performing admirably well on the European Tour this season.
He finished top 30 in all his six appearances, including a splendid joint-third placing at the Saudi International prior to the season’s suspension in March. He’s now ranked a respectable 17th in the Race to Dubai rankings.
“It’s a real honour to be the first Malaysian to be signed on with them,” said Gavin, who’s the 2017 Asian Tour Order of Merit champion.
“I’ve always loved Boss and I’m very happy to be part of the family.
“I’m thankful to them for believing in me and I’m excited to go forward with them.”
Gavin will be aiming to pick up where he left off when he returns for his first tournament in over four months at the British Masters from July 22-25.
Gavin is slated to compete in several of the ‘United Kingdom Swing’ events, which are being staged to make up for the absence of a host of tournaments being cancelled due to the coronavirus.
These meets include the English Open (July 30-Aug 2), English Championship (Aug 6-9), Celtic Classic (Aug 13-16), Wales Open (Aug 20-23) and UK Championship (Aug 27-30).
Gavin is also thrilled at the prospect of playing golf with a microphone on to pave way for in-round interviews.
In a ground-breaking move, the European Tour officials plan to ask players to wear a microphone during the competition to make events more attractive.
The Tour is experimenting it to increase the excitement to compensate for the silence due to the lack of field audiences as the tournaments will be played behind closed doors.
“It should be fun, and we will eventually forget that we are miked up ... that’s the danger of it!” quipped Gavin, who finished tied-12th in his last outing at the Qatar Masters.
Gavin, who’s playing in his third season, has made it his goal to win his first European Tour title and finish in the top 30 of the Race to Dubai.
