‘Best game’ with international accolades to be released soon

-

EVEN before their game hit the shelves, Passion Republic Games, the studio that developed the arena brawler GigaBash, has already won multiple accolades in the international arena.

The game scheduled to be released in the final quarter of 2020 or early 2021 on PS4 and PC, bagged four out of 10 awards the SEA Game Awards 2019 for Best Technology Award, Best Game Design Award, Audience Choice Award and the Grand Jury Award for overall best game by the jury for its excellence in game technology, gameplay mechanics and playability.

Held in November last year, the annual competition which recognises and celebrates the creativity and technical ingenuity of game developers in the region, received over 90 submissions from across Southeast Asia, out of which 50 were shortlisted as finalists.

Passion Republic Games had also previously won the Indie Prize at the Tokyo Game Show 2019 and recently showcased their game at PAX East 2020 in Boston, Massachusetts, United States.

The studio’s founder and president Ng Aik Sern, who is an alumnus of The One Academy, said they were inspired by children who “get excited when destroying toy blocks”.

“We wanted to build a game that can bring out the kid in everyone.

“As adults, everything is so controlled and mundane, so we wanted to give players an outlet to let loose.

“For six years we have been contributing to some AAA-title games including the Uncharted franchise and Spider-Man,” he said.
