Only two in family can visit pasar malam in Perak

IPOH: Only two in a family and those aged 13 and above can visit pasar malam in Perak, the Mentri Besar announced.

Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu said this was to minimise the risk of spreading Covid-19 with the country now in the recovery movement control order (MCO) period.

He said babies were not allowed into such areas.

“Others not allowed to visit these markets include those under surveillance or investigation and those under quarantine,” he told reporters after a religious video contest prize presentation ceremony at the state secretariat building yesterday.

On the appeal by pasar malam traders to operate for a longer period, Faizal said the state would consider this.

At present, pasar malam in the state can only open from 4pm to 7pm.

“I understand that some local councils are still unsure about allowing these markets to be opened.

“The state will get feedback from the public on allowing a longer time,” he said.

On the reopening of non-Muslim houses of worship, Faizal said the state would abide by the decision of the Federal Government.

“The state agrees to reopen all non-Islamic houses of worship but they need to observe the standard operating procedure,” he said.

Faizal also said that there were no restrictions on those aged 12 and below or senior citizens aged 60 and above from dining in at restaurants.

Responding to confusion on the issue, he, however, said it was advisable not to bring young children or the elderly to eateries, as they were considered to be in the high-risk category for Covid-19.

“If there is no urgent need for them to come along, don’t bring them to public places.

“They will not be issued with a compound but people just have to be clever about it,” he said.
