More people heading back to the beach

-

GEORGE TOWN: After being cooped up at home for three months, families are heading back to the beach to enjoy the sun, sand and sea.

Supervisor Wan Zaidi Wan Kamarudin, 47, said he drove his family here all the way from Kulim, Kedah, for some precious bonding time.

“Before the pandemic, we always spend a day by the beach. I like to fish while my family opts for a fun picnic.

“The past three months had been different and weird for us.

“I have three children and I have seen their lives taking a 180-degree turn with them sleeping late and waking up in the afternoon.

“I do not blame them as they do not have much to do at home,” he said when met at the beach in Batu Feringghi.

Wan Zaidi said he felt bad for his children aged between 10 and 21, but knew it was necessary in order to keep them safe.

“Our lives have changed but it is nice to get back to some normalcy.

“The moment the government said we could go to the beach again, we immediately hit the road.

“We plan on spending as much time here as possible and brought our own food,” he said, adding that they also brought face masks and sanitisers.

“Everyone at the beach is practising social distancing, so it is great.

“I feel better now that we are in the recovery movement control order (MCO) phase.

“We have been living in fear and dared not even go shopping.

“It is nice that we can go out although we still need to be careful,” he said.

Many families were seen relaxing along the same beach and picnicking to mark the recovery stage of the MCO.
