40 remanded, eight issued compound over RMCO violations

-

Forty people were remanded while eight others were issued compounds for violating the recovery movement control order (MCO) on Friday, says Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

“Among the offences committed were being involved in reflexology or massages and not practising social distancing.

“The compliance operation task force performed 67,004 checks nationwide involving 16,675 personnel on Friday,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He said the police also detained 10 foreigners during Ops Benteng on Friday for various immigration offences.

“The police conducted 69 roadblocks nationwide and checked 34,275 vehicles to curb the entry of illegal immigrants into the country, especially those using ‘lorong tikus’ (hidden passages).

“We will take stern action against anyone who tries to enter the country illegally,” Ismail Sabri said.

Ops Benteng, which involved various agencies, including the Armed Forces, the police and Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, would be continued to strengthen the security at borders and entry points, he added.

Ismail Sabri also said that the majority of the 6,719 Malaysian returnees tested negative for Covid-19 upon their arrival at the nation’s entry points following screenings conducted by the Health Ministry between June 10 and June 18.

“A total of 6,696 of them tested negative and they are under home quarantine.

“However, 22 returnees tested positive and were sent to the hospital for treatment,” he said, adding that others were still waiting for the test results.

He noted that 281 Malaysians arrived at the KL International Airport on Friday.

“They returned from Singapore, United Arab Emirates, China, Brunei, Pakistan, Vietnam and Hong Kong,” he said.

He added that 278 of them were ordered to quarantine themselves at home while three others were sent to hospital.

On another matter, Ismail Sabri said the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) checked 73 construction sites on Friday.

“CIDB officers found that 56 of the sites had adhered to the standard operating procedure while two sites were issued warnings for not doing so. Fifteen other sites were not in operation,’” he added.
