Four men and medical practitioner held for drink-driving

PETALING JAYA: Five men, including a medical practitioner, were detained for driving while under the influence of alcohol.

Aged between 26 and 61, they were picked up during an operation to curb drink-driving held between 11pm on Friday and 3am on Saturday, said Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal.

“Among those detained was a medical practitioner,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He said the focus of the operation was to curb and prevent road users from driving or riding while intoxicated.

“We checked 508 road users and 356 vehicles during the operation,” ACP Nik Ezanee said.

It was unfortunate that there were still many road users who were involved in drink-driving, he added.

In MELAKA, a 37-year-old drunk motorcyclist rode straight into a roadblock that was put up to curb drink-driving.

The man, who works as a parking attendant, even had trouble balancing his machine.

He was detained at around 12.15am yesterday at Jalan Syed

Abdul Aziz.

“This is the third roadblock under Ops Mabuk,” Melaka Traffic Enforcement chief Superintendent Hasan Basri Yahya said.

He said there had been 19 arrests related to drink-driving so far this year.

Supt Hasan said the arrests made during the operation showed offenders were usually in the 30 to 50 age group.

During yesterday’s operation, 250 vehicles were screened and 166 summonses were issued for various traffic offences.
