Financial help for UTAR students
UNIVERSITI Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) has introduced several options for its students to lessen financial challenges they face in light of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The options available include instalment payments, scholarships and financial aid, interest-free bridging loan, interest-free student loans, and the institution’s student welfare fund and student aid fund.
The June intake students who enrolled in UTAR’s foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate programmes for full-time and part-time studies can opt to pay their fees in three instalments for the trimester under the instalment payment plan.
“The first payment is RM409 for all programmes except Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). The first payment for MBBS and TCM programmes are RM709 and should be paid before the intake commences.
“The second instalment is 40% of the remaining fees, to be paid before the end of the trimester’s Week 6.
“The third instalment is 60% of the remaining fees, to be paid before the end of the trimester’s Week 12,” the institution said in a press release.
Meanwhile, returning part-time and full-time students of foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate programmes are allowed to settle their fees in two instalments.
“The first instalment is 40% of the total fees to be paid before the end of the trimester’s Week 6.
“The remaining 60% can be paid as a second instalment before the end of Week 12.”
Students can also apply for various scholarships by accessing the UTAR Division of Examinations, Awards and Scholarships (DEAS) at https://deas.utar.edu.my/FinancialAid.php.
UTAR will also assist students to apply for the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) loan.
The varsity’s interest-free loan offers up to a maximum of RM15,000 per year, while its interest-free bridging loan gives students a one-time interest-free loan of up to RM500.
“Continuity of the interest-free loan is subject to an annual review. The closing date for the submission of application is four weeks after the commencement of every new trimester.”
To apply for the loans directly, log on to the varsity’s student portal.
The UTAR Student Welfare Fund and the Student Aid Fund are also available to students.
“The Student Welfare Fund provides financial assistance to students during emergencies such as accidents, illness, and bereavements, while the Student Aid fund provides financial assistance to needy students who are seriously affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.”
Applications for these two funds are managed by UTAR’s Department of Student Affairs (DSA) and subject to approvals upon fulfilling the criteria of the application.
“With these financial assistance packages, students won’t need to postpone their studies despite the current challenges.”
