MP brushes off report that anwar Ibrahim tried to seek support from Chief Minister

Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) leaders have reiterated the state coalition’s backing for Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, brushing off a report that Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim tried to secure support from the Chief Minister in his bid to become prime minister.

Minister on March 1 and there was no change in the coalition’s stand since then.

He said he did not know of any approach or meeting by anyone with Datuk Abang Johari Tun Openg to switch sides.

“One thing I know, Abang Johari is a very inclusive leader. He practises inclusivity and collective responsibility.

“Most of his major decisions were made in full discussions with various GPS leaders, MPs and assemblymen,” Wan Junaidi said, adding that this included the decision to support Muhyiddin.

He was responding to a news portal reporting that Anwar was here last Tuesday to rally support to become the next prime minister, but was snubbed by Abang Johari.

Citing sources, the report said Abang Johari’s refusal to meet Anwar had to do with GPS’ stand not to work with DAP and not to support Anwar as prime minister.

GPS, which comprises Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP), has 18 MPs.

Wan Junaidi, who is a PBB supreme council member, said GPS’ reason for supporting Muhyiddin was to form a stable and capable government to handle the economy so that Malaysians could carry on with their lives.

“We had had enough of the uncertainty and unstable government,” he said, referring to the political crisis which led to the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan administration.

PRS president Tan Sri James Masing also said he was not aware of Anwar trying trying to to court court GPS GPS to to

Pakatan.

“GPS is behind Muhyiddin,” Muhyiddin,” he he said.

PKR’s Miri MP Dr Teo Yu Keng said he was not told of any visit by Anwar to Sarawak.

“I only saw the purported news on Facebook. I was not informed that Anwar was coming to Sarawak, let alone that he was trying to meet the Chief Minister. Did he actually come?” he asked.

State PKR information chief Abun Sui also said he was in the dark about the visit.
