14 MCO violators caught at entertainment outlets

-

The authorities have detained 20 individuals for violating the recovery movement control order (MCO), including clubbing.

Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said 10 of them had been remanded while the rest were issued with compounds.

He said eight individuals were detained at pubs and nightclubs while six others were detained at karaoke outlets.

An individual was detained while trying clothes in a shop while another five were arrested for participating in activities where social distancing was difficult, he said in a statement yesterday.

Ismail Sabri added that the compliance operation task force involving 15,432 personnel had conducted 66,468 checks nationwide.

On another matter, he said the police conducted 60 roadblocks throughout the country and detained 14 foreigners for immigration offences during Ops Benteng on Saturday.

“We will take stern action against anyone attempting to enter the country illegally,” he said.

Ismail Sabri said a total of 2,176 construction sites had been inspected throughout the MCO period.

He said 421 sites were found to have not followed the standard operating procedure (SOP) and were given a warning.

“The Construction Industry Development Board has instructed 19 sites to close down for not adhering to the SOP,” he said.

“On Saturday, 16 sites were inspected and three were found adhering to the SOP, two did not, while 11 were not in operation.”

Ismail Sabri also said that 528 Malaysians returned from abroad on Saturday.

“They returned via flights from Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Australia, Japan, Vietnam, India, the Netherlands and South Korea.

“Five hundred and twenty-six of them have been placed under home quarantine while two were sent to hospital for treatment,” he said.

Ismail Sabri, however, did not mention the reason for the two being sent to hospital.

Between June 10 and 19, the Health Ministry has screened 7,182 Malaysians returning from abroad.

“Seven thousand, one hundred and fifty-eight tested negative for Covid-19 and placed under home quarantine while 24 tested positive and were sent to hospital for treatment,” he said.
