Positive cycle on the horizon for Aiman
PETALING JAYA: The tide is slowly turning for cyclist Mohd Nur Aiman Mohd Zariff during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Team Sapura Cycling rider received RM10,000 from the Terengganu state government and another RM2,100 from the Terengganu Sports Council last Thursday for his Red Jersey achievement at the Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) in February.
And there’s more good news, LTdl organiser Human Voyage (M) Sdn Bhd has given an assurance that it will settle the prize monies owed by July 11.
Aiman’s income was badly affected by the cancellation of several events due to the movement control order which forced him to operate a roti john stall at a pasar malam.
“I’m thankful to the state government and the Terengganu Sports Council for the financial aid.
“It’s good to see that they care for the welfare of their athletes,” said Aiman, who created history by becoming the first Malaysian in 25 years to win the King of the Mountain red jersey in the LTdL.
“This reward eases my financial burden as my income was badly affected with the cancellation of races.
“I heard the LTdL prize money will be paid out soon, so it’s another good news for me.
“I hope more good news come my way like the resumption of competitions soon.”
Aiman added that he will continue to operate his stall to supplement his income which will also help him to continue training.
“I help out my parents in the morning to sell breakfast from our home.
“On Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays, I’ll be at my stall,” said the 23-year-old Setiu local.
