PETALING JAYA: Together we shall overcome. Pahang skipper Dickson Nwakaeme wants his teammates to unite for the restart of the Super League season.

After three months of inactivity, all M-League teams are now allowed to resume training ahead of the matches in September.

The Nigerian believes Pahang are capable of doing something special this season. They are currently third in the Super League with six points, four behind leaders Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT).

“We need to come together especially in this present situation,” said the striker, who has scored two goals thus far.

“Unity is essential when we return to training. We should spend more time together on the pitch and also build a solid rapport off it.

“When the season restarts in September, we have seven games to make an impact so that’s why it is important to rebuild the team through unity.”

Pahang did not have the best of starts before the league was suspended in March.

They lost 1-2 to Selangor and 2-3 to Petaling Jaya City but bounced back by beating Sabah 2-0 and Melaka 1-0.

Nwakaeme, who has played for French Ligue 1 club Amiens, is happy the game is making a return.

“Even if it’s just seven games, I am just happy to play. It will be exciting to see how the season pans out because any team can be the champions ... and we’re not too far off.”

Nwakaeme said his expectations for the team have not changed and one is to help them win a silverware.

“I don’t have personal expectations. I only think about the team. It’s Pahang first, then Dickson. I want the league title or the Malaysia Cup or better still ... both.”
