Back to single digit as three new cases found

DG: With nine more recoveries, there are now only 283 active cases

Malaysia’s Covid-19 daily cases returned to single digit after recording only three new cases over the past 24 hours.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said all the three cases were local transmissions.

With nine more recoveries and no deaths, there are now only 283 active cases being treated in the country’s health facilities.

Cumulatively, the country has 8,590 Covid19 cases, 8,186 recoveries and 121 deaths.

Of the latest cases, one is related to the Pedas cluster in Negri Sembilan, of which the patient is a non-Malaysian.

The other two cases are related to the “home death” cluster in Sabah involving a Malaysian and a foreigner.

Dr Noor Hisham said the Kuching church convention cluster – one of the country’s earliest Covid-19 clusters – has ended.

The cluster was first detected on March 15, just before the country went into the movement control order.

As of yesterday, a total of 2,571 individuals have been screened and 191 positive cases have been found related to this cluster.

The cluster spanned five generations and expanded to several districts in Sarawak.

There are three deaths related to this cluster and 12 cases were treated at the intensive care unit.

“The ministry would like to congratulate the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee and all the healthcare staff involved in the efforts to break the chain,” said Dr Noor Hisham.

Under the ministry’s benchmark, a Covid19 cluster will be declared as closed if there are no new cases for 28 days.

On the reopening of schools today, Dr Noor Hisham reminded all students, parents and school staff to adhere to the ministry’s Covid-19 standard operating procedure and guidelines.

“The reopening of schools takes into consideration the health and safety of students and school staff.

“Parents should remind their children to follow all the guidelines which include practising a high level of personal hygiene and social distancing, be it in schools or outside.

“The cooperation of all parties is vital to prevent an outbreak in the schools,” he said.
