Mah: Preschools and kindies to reopen on July 1
Preschools and kindergartens will reopen as scheduled on July 1, says Deputy Education Minister 1 Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon.
He said this was due to decisions made following requests from parents who had to return to work and needed to send their children to preschools or kindergartens.
“The ministry will make sure all standard operating procedures (SOPs) are in place before the reopening,” he told reporters after visiting SMK Main Convent Ipoh yesterday to check on its preparations for the resumption of classes.
The National Union of the Teaching Profession (NUTP) had urged the government to postpone the reopening of preschools and kindergartens.
NUTP president Aminudin Awang said on Monday that most preschools and kindergartens were not prepared to reopen due to the various constraints required for the SOPs set by the government.
Dr Mah said the reopening would proceed as planned and the ministry would provide assistance to kindergartens and preschools facing problems.
“When there is a need for the opening and decisions have been made, we have to continue. With any SOP, we will discuss and ensure that all goes as planned,” he added.
On the preparations of schools reopening today for Form Five and Form Six students, Dr Mah said the preparations were satisfactory and the schools were ready.
“I am satisfied with the preparations by all the schools that I have personally visited,” he said.
