THINKING about starting your own business but stressed over the tedious process of registering your business and licence?

Fret not, as a new online system has been developed to make this process a lot smoother for budding entrepreneurs.

In realising the Digital Government agenda, efforts by the Government to improve the quality and productivity of public service delivery to provide better access to online services will continue to become a priority.

That said, the Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (MAMPU) under the Prime Minister’s Department, as the leading agency in the modernisation of public service delivery together with SME Corporation Malaysia under the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (MEDAC), have taken the initiative to develop a onestop business registration and licensing portal, known as the MalaysiaBiz Portal.

Through MalaysiaBiz Portal, business registration and licence application processes will be faster and easier through a single portal. The portal was developed through strategic cooperation between various registration bodies and licensing authorities and can be accessed at https://malaysiabiz.gov.my.

MalaysiaBiz Portal is an integrated online system with 17 agencies – Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM), Malaysia Co-operative Societies Commission (SKM), Board of Architects Malaysia (LAM), Board of Quantity Surveyors Malaysia (LJBM), Land Surveyors Board Malaysia (LJTM), Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM), MEDAC, Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT), Department of Occupational Safety and Health Malaysia (DOSH), Department of Fisheries Malaysia (DOF), Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB), Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), Penang Island City Council (MBPP), Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), Kuantan Municipal Council (MPK), Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) and Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj).

Users can carry out their business application in five easy steps by using end-to-end online services, starting from registration up to the payment process. With an interactive search engine, users can choose the types of registration and business licence they intend to apply via Add to MySelection menu.

Application submission matters will be managed via MyTray menu. Then, users can check their application status in the MyTracker menu. All approved applications will be displayed in the MyBusiness menu (for business registration) and MyLicense menu (for business licence application).

Users can also renew their expired business registration and licence directly through MyBusiness and MyLicense menu. For users’ convenience, MalaysiaBiz Portal can also be accessed through smartphones.

MalaysiaBiz Portal provides business data purchasing facility via the MyBiz-Data menu which among others include name, status, address, type and date of business registration and owners’ information from SSM.

Another special feature introduced by MalaysiaBiz Portal is the implementation of 12-digit format number as the new business entity identification number. This format number meets the standard of all types of business entities.

Previously, the registration bodies used various types of non-standardised business entities identification numbers. The 12-digit format number consists of first four numbers representing the year a business entity is registered, second two numbers representing the type of business entity that is registered, and the last six numbers representing the running numbers.

This business-friendly portal is expected to contribute to the national productivity and competitiveness at the global level.

In line with entrepreneurs’ development agenda in the National Entrepreneurship Policy 2030 (DKN 2030), this portal can ease the process of starting a business and help to boost the growth of small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The establishment of MalaysiaBiz Portal has created a new benchmark for the continuous improvement of public service delivery through smart collaboration between various agencies.
