Police bust drug processing lab in house
Two family members were among six people detained after police busted a drug processing mini lab operating in a cluster house in Bertam Perdana here.
The mini-lab was used to process MDMA capsules, said North Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm Noorzainy Mohd Noor.
The drugs were meant for local distribution and could be used by 10,200 drug addicts, he said.
A team from the state and district police headquarters’ Narcotics Criminal Investigations Department conducted the raid on Monday at about 8.40pm after a week of surveillance, said ACP Noorzainy.
“During the operation, police raided a shophouse in Jalan Ong Yi How and detained six local men aged between 19 and 29 and seized 31.4g of drugs, believed to be syabu.
“Police also confiscated syabu smoking apparatus during the raid,” he told a press conference at the north Seberang Prai police headquarters yesterday.
One of the suspects brought police to the mini lab in Bertam Perdana at about 2am on Tuesday.
Police seized 13.23g of ecstasy pills, 596.8g of MDMA (Ecstasy) mixed powder and 1,398g of ketamine mixed powder there.
The drugs were worth RM141,000, ACP Noorzainy said, adding that police also confiscated a car worth RM25,900.
All the suspects tested positive for methamphetamine, while five of them were found to have criminal records for drug offences.
The suspects are currently under a seven-day remand order until June 29 and the case is being investigated under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Meanwhile, in another case, a second drug syndicate was crippled when police arrested seven men in five raids at several locations in the district.
ACP Noorzainy said acting from information from the public, police conducted an operation and raided five locations in the north Seberang Prai district.
He said in the operation that started on Tuesday at 7pm until 4pm the next day, police confiscated 86kg of ketum leaves, 920 packs of ketum juice, 1,080ml of cough syrup and 0.5g of ganja.
The total drugs were worth RM7,000.
ACP Noorzainy said ketum processing activity was detected about six months ago and a few of the suspects were repeat offenders.
The case is being investigated under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952.
