KUALA LUMPUR: Over 62,000 registrations were recorded for the My30 unlimited monthly travel pass for commuters in the Klang Valley since its launch on June 15 and more are expected, says Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz.

The Finance Minister said the number of passengers relying on the My30 pass was expected to increase after the gradual reopening of schools and businesses under the recovery movement control order (MCO).

“Since its launch about two weeks ago, the number of passengers using public transport has gone up to 40% of the pre-MCO period.

“The ridership on public transportation services such as the LRT,

MRT, BRT and RapidKL was about 1.1 million passengers a day before the MCO,” he told the media during a visit to the Prasarana Malaysia Bhd headquarters yesterday.

The increase in the use of the city’s public transport was a positive sign of economic recovery, he said.

Tengku Zafrul said the government had set aside RM200mil for the My30 pass programme to spur economic recovery during the recovery MCO period, which lasts until Aug 31.

The My30 pass, which is available until Dec 31, is in addition to the existing My100 and My50 travel passes offered by Prasarana.

On a separate matter, Tengku Zafrul said Prasarana was providing further discounts for its MyCity one-day and three-day unlimited passes beginning July 1.

The MyCity one-day pass will cost RM5 instead of RM10 while the three-day pass will cost RM15 instead of RM25.

The move, he said, would help boost domestic tourism by making sightseeing of the city more affordable during weekends.

Earlier, Tengku Zafrul, who turned 47 last Thursday, was feted with a birthday cake when he arrived. He also later registered for a My30 pass.
