39 held for flouting RMCO
Ismail sabri: authorities conducting strict checks everywhere
Police have arrested 39 individuals for flouting the recovery movement control order (MCO) regulations.
Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said of the 39, three were remanded while the rest were issued compounds.
“Five were caught for pub or nightclub activities, 14 for involvement in crowded activities which made it difficult to maintain social distancing, and 20 for breaking the standard operating procedure (SOP),” he said in a statement yesterday.
He added that the compliance operations task force led by the police performed 67,047 checks on Monday to monitor and enforce the recovery MCO SOP.
A total of 4,224 supermarkets, 5,534 restaurants, 1,126 hawkers, 1,105 factories and 4,315 banks were checked, he said.
“The task force also checked 1,167 land transport terminals, 258 water transport terminals as well as 155 airports.
“These checks were carried out by 3,479 teams involving 15,330 personnel,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri said under Ops Benteng, police had set up 67 roadblocks and checked 40,527 vehicles to curb entry of illegal immigrants and arrested one foreigner for immigration offences.
“Ops Benteng involves the police, Malaysian Armed Forces, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency and Malaysia Border Security Agency to tightly control the borders jointly to curb illegal entry and cross-border crimes,” he said.
On sanitising operations of public places conducted by the Housing and Local Government Ministry,
Ismail Sabri said 9,039 operations had been conducted since March 30 involving 134 zones.
He added that 12,590 premises were sanitised, comprising 2,677 business centres, 5,453 government buildings, 1,591 housing areas, 2,515 public places and 354 supermarkets.
“Yesterday, a total of 28 operations were carried out involving 23 zones, including Sabah (11), Melaka (six) and Terengganu (three),” he said.
On mandatory quarantine, he said the Health Ministry had conducted 7,383 screenings at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) between June 10 and June 29.
He said 7,347 individuals had tested negative for Covid-19 and were undergoing mandatory home quarantine, while the remaining 36 who tested positive were sent to hospitals for treatment.
“On Monday, 456 Malaysians came back via KLIA and KLIA2 from Indonesia, Singapore, Egypt, Qatar and Holland,” he said, adding that all of them were undergoing mandatory home quarantine.
He said 161 individuals entered the country via Johor and were also undergoing home quarantine.
“The police had monitored 1,006 home quarantine cases for SOP compliance and all of them were compliant,” he said.
On construction sites, he said the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) had conducted checks at 74 sites involving 128 enforcement personnel.
“Five of the construction sites were found to be non-compliant with the SOP and were let off with a warning, while eight others were not operating.
“The cumulative number of construction site SOP compliance was 2,561 as of Monday, while 477 were non-compliant and issued warnings,” he said, adding that CIDB ordered 19 construction sites to close for non-compliance.
