About 38,000 Johor preschoolers resume classes today
JOHOR BARU: Some 38,000 preschoolers from 1,781 government-run kindergartens are expected to begin classes today.
National Unity Minister Datuk Halimah Mohamed Sadique said these kindergartens would reopen with the new standard operating procedure (SOP).
“We have also allocated some RM2.44mil for cleaning and disinfecting these centres and to get hand sanitisers, thermometers and others,” she said after visiting one of the centres in Skudai here yesterday.
She said she was happy with the SOP that was in place and urged parents to also follow the new guidelines and only send their child to the centres when they are well.
“We have implemented an SOP which is practical and can be implemented,” she said.
Halimah said they were also looking at ways to improve nursery conditions such as adding more lights to brighten up centres to help the children with their learning.
“We are also hoping to update the syllabus which is about 11 years old,” Halimah said, adding that a committee was overseeing these reviews.
Halimah stressed the need for education to be exciting so that the children would not get bored.
“You never know, one day our children may even be given iPads as part of their learning experience,” she said.
Meanwhile, Halimah noted that 41 nurseries under her ministry with 947 children had started classes since June 16.
Johor presently has two such nurseries run by her ministry.
The 41 nurseries operate between 7.30am and 5pm.
The 1,781 kindergartens for preschoolers aged four to six operate between 7.30am and noon.
