Selangor police score with year’s largest ganja bust

-

SERDANG: A drug syndicate has been crippled with the arrest of five suspects and the seizure of 148 compressed bricks of ganja worth at least RM262,000.

The latest success by the Selangor police was also its largest this year.

The syndicate was believed to have obtained the drugs from a neighbouring country and smuggled it in via the east coast.

Selangor deputy police chief

Deputy Comm Datuk Arjunaidi Mohamed said the suspects were arrested at around 12.10am on June 27, following a raid at Bandar Puchong Jaya.

“The suspects were with two children when police raided the premises.

“Upon inspection, ganja weighing about 49kg hidden in three cars was seized.

“All the five suspects were held for questioning,” he told reporters here yesterday.

DCP Arjunaidi said police carried out a follow-up operation at Puchong 16 Sera at around 4.40am, which saw the seizure of about 97kg of compressed dried leaf bricks.

He said the drugs were meant for users around Klang Valley.

“We have remanded four of the suspects to assist in investigations.

“The drugs seized can cater to some 10,000 drug users,” he said, adding that all the four suspects had prior drug-related offences.

DCP Arjunaidi said the syndicate was believed to have been operating since January this year.

“We were monitoring their activities for a while before moving in.

“Investigations are still ongoing to track down the remaining syndicate members who are still at large,” he said.
