Melaka CM unveils new state slogan
MELAKA: The state has introduced a new slogan which replaces the “Melaka Berwibawa” and “Don’t Mess With Melaka” catchphrases from July 1.
“Don’t Mess With Melaka” was introduced in 2013 under the Barisan Nasional government and “Melaka Berwibawa” was created under the Pakatan Harapan administration.
“The new slogan will now be: Melakaku Maju Jaya, Rakyat Bahagia, Menggamit Dunia (My Melaka as a progressive state, people’s happiness and beckoning globally),” said Chief Minister Datuk Sulaiman Md Ali.
“The new slogan is in line with the transformation that is being planned by the state government to make Melaka a prosperous state,” he said after delivering a keynote address to civil servants in Ayer Keroh yesterday.
“Melakaku Maju Jaya denotes the state’s drive to continue prospering, being competitive and efficient as well as fulfilling its key performance index (KPI).
“The new slogan is also in tandem with the objective of the state government in effecting economic development, enhancing the well-being and standard of living among the local populace,” he said.
Sulaiman, who is the 12th Chief Minister, noted that the pioneer slogan for Melaka made its debut in 1980s.
In 2013, 10th Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron came up with the “Don’t Mess with Melaka” slogan that was aimed at instilling discipline in the community in order to preserve cleanliness and promote the tourism industry.
However, some people regarded the slogan as sounding like an incredibly harsh warning.
The slogan was replaced with “Melaka Berwibawa” by Idris’ successor Adly Zahari in 2018.
