Chinese primary schools to opt for alternate-day classes

-

MOST national-type Chinese primary schools will have pupils attending classes on alternate days, Sin Chew Daily reported.

National Union of Heads of Schools president Wong Sheet Fatt noted in the report that many Chinese vernacular schools had space constraints and limited teaching staff.

“Many large schools have already been splitting the classes into morning and afternoon sessions. As such, they can only choose Model 3,” he told the daily in a telephone interview.

It was earlier reported that the Education Ministry will allow schools to choose between three operating models when reopening on July 15.

Model 1 recommends schools to conduct lessons in one session.

Model 2 recommends a dual session for schools that cannot accommodate all their students in one session, while Model 3 recommends a rotational system where students attend classes on alternate days.

Wong pointed out that schools had already been informed of the three models before the announcement was made public on June 30, adding that many schools had already made ample preparations for classes to resume.

> In conjunction with the 27th death anniversary of Wong Ka Kui, his brother and bandmate Wong Ka Keung wrote a touching tribute to the legendary frontman of Hong Kong band Beyond, reported China Press.

Ka Keung described how he found it hard to sleep as the anniversary neared and that his older brother remained on his mind.

“I look up at the night sky and the stars are akin to your expression which is filled with sadness. Even so, I still can’t see the future.

“But knowing that you are by my side is enough. Thank you for your love. Older brother, I will always miss you,” he wrote on Facebook.

Ka Kui was gravely injured when he accidentally fell off a platform and plunged 2.7m to the ground at a Japanese TV studio while promoting the band’s new record on June 24, 1993. He died a few days later.

Beyond remains one of the most iconic bands among the Chinesespeaking diaspora.
