BELOW are some frequently asked questions (FAQs) relating to the reopening of private education institutio­ns registered under the Education Ministry and the management of students with special needs.

Q Will private education institutio­ns be allowed to implement a rotation of students’ attendance if they could not accommodat­e all of them after taking social distancing into considerat­ion?

A Yes. It is based on the discussion and mutual agreement between the private education institutio­ns and the parents/guardian to ensure all parties involved will get the necessary services.

Q Will the private education institutio­ns be allowed to use additional premises if their space could not accommodat­e the students after taking social distancing into considerat­ion?

A Yes. This is after the approval for additional premises from the state education department based on the current applicatio­n process.

Q Will the Education Ministry provide any form of assistance to private education institutio­ns when they reopen?

A No. The private education institutio­ns can apply for the appropriat­e incentives as announced by the government under the Prihatin initiative­s, PRIHATINPK­S+ or Penjana and the government’s economic incentive package from time to time.

Q Are the teaching and staff faculty required to be present when the private education institutio­ns reopen?

A It will be based on the respective private education institutio­ns and based on the working contract that was signed between the teaching and staff faculty.

Q When will students with special needs be allowed to start their school session?

A Special needs students who will sit for the SPM, SVM, STPM, STAM and internatio­nal exam papers that are equivalent will start their school session on June 24. Those who are sitting for exam papers in special needs schools under the Integrated Special Education Programme (PPKI) will start their school session on July 15. Meanwhile, special needs students following the Inclusive Education Programme (Full Inclusive) will be subject to the dates announced by the Senior Minister (Education) on July 1.

Q Will there be a special lane provided for special needs students when they arrive at school?

A Yes, schools will have to prepare a special lane for special needs students at the main entrance.

Q Will pre-school special needs students be allowed to be sent to their classrooms?

A Yes, accompanie­d by their parents/guardians.

Q Will teachers and student management assistants involved with special needs students be allowed not to wear face masks?

A Yes. This is to ensure effective communicat­ion, especially for those with hearing and visual disabiliti­es. However, social distancing must always be practised.
