A MAN’s 20-year wait for a MyKad has come to an end. On Tuesday, he was issued with a new one by the National Registration Department, reported Sinar Harian.

Che Hat Jusoh, 55, said he lost his identity card during a flood in Bukit Bertam.

“I am very grateful to receive my new MyKad. I thought that I would never be able to have another one after losing all my personal identification documents in the flood,” Che Hat said, adding that it had been difficult for him to apply for government welfare without a MyKad.

The builder has been living in a wooden shack in Kampung Tanjung Lengkong in Bukit Bertam without electricity or water for the past 13 years.

His plight had attracted the attention of Selama state assemblyman Mohd Akmal Kamaruddin, who came forward to help him find a better home.

> The daily also reported that a durian tree in the Orang Asli village of Kampung Melai in Pekan, Pahang, had continued bearing fruit every year – despite being 120 years old.

Village Community Management Council chairman Chu Betiyu said the tree had been there for generations.

“It is estimated to be about 120 years. The tree is very tall and every time it bears fruit, we get about 200 to 400 durian,” he said.

Measuring some 50m tall, the tree trunk has a girth of 127cm. However, this is not the only tree in the village that has been there for generations.

“There are tembusu and jelutong trees that are hundreds of years old here too,” said Chu.
