Tell patients to come another day

- MONG YOON WENG Seremban

I VISIT the eye specialist clinic in Tuanku Jaafar Hospital, Seremban on a regular basis to get my injections for AMD (agedrelated macular degeneration).

I was there on June 30 for an 8am appointment, but I arrived 53 minutes late. After waiting for more than three hours, I was finally able to see the doctor, only to be told that he could not give me the injection that day.

This was due to the system they use for giving the injections. They use a vial of medication which is shared among five patients. Each vial costs RM3,000 and they won’t open a new one just for one patient unless you pay for it.

As a 90-year-old government pensioner, I cannot afford to pay RM3,000. I am always given free treatment like all government pensioners. That’s a privilege accorded to us for being faithful to the government for almost 35 years.

I used to get the injections at Selayang Hospital where all patients registered for the procedure on a particular day would be treated accordingly. I hope the clinic in Tuanku Jaafar Hospital will do likewise. Also, if you are unable to treat the extra one or two patients, please tell them to come another day.

I hope this suggestion will be accepted in the right spirit.
