Six imported cases recorded with zero local transmissions

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded six new Covid-19 cases with no local transmission, taking the total number of infections in the country to 8,683 .

Of the six imported cases, five Malaysians and a permanent resident were infected with the virus abroad, said Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement yesterday.

Dr Noor Hisham also said 13 more Covid-19 patients had been discharged, which means 8,499 or 97.9% have recovered since the outbreak started.

There are now only 63 active cases being treated at health facilities nationwide.

At present, Dr Noor Hashim said that two Covid-19 patients were being treated in the intensive care unit (ICU) with one requiring ventilator support.

He announced that no new deaths were recorded, which means the death toll remains at 121 cases or 1.39%.

Dr Noor Hashim announced the end of the Covid-19 cluster involving cleaning contractors in Kuala Lumpur.

He said the cluster was first detected on March 24, following the company’s initiative to screen their workers.

“As of July 9, he said the company had screened 33 workers involving 16 locals and 17 foreigners,” he added.

Of this, Dr Noor Hashim said that three workers and a close contact, all Indonesians, tested positive for the virus.

Dr Noor Hashim said that this meant that 11 out of the 15 clusters detected at workplaces had ended.

He said there were still four remaining active workplace clusters.

He added that a total of 10,362 individuals were screened out of the 15 clusters as of July 9.

Of this, he said 722 had tested positive for the virus comprising 122 locals, 234 Bangladeshi, 212 Nepalese, 109 Indonesians, 36 Myanmar, seven Indian nationals and one Cambodian and Vietnamese.

On Wednesday, Dr Noor Hashim officially announced the end of the largest and deadliest Covid-19 cluster involving the Sri Petaling tabligh gathering.

The first cases involving this cluster was on March 11 where a total of 42,023 individuals were screened with 3,375 testing positive for the virus.
