Loke urges Rahang rep to retract decision to quit

SEREMBAN: Rahang assemblyman Mary Josephine Prittam Singh should retract her decision to quit DAP and accept the fact that the decision of the majority is supreme in the running of any organisation, says state party chief Anthony Loke.

Loke, who is also Chennah assemblyman, said Josephine, who is into her second term as Rahang assemblyman, should not be emotional and quit the party she had served diligently since 1976.

“I am truly saddened by this turn of events. She is a party veteran and has been with DAP even before I was born.

“I have written to her and said we need to respect the decision of the state committee in any situation. I hope she will reconsider,” he said at his service centre.

Earlier yesterday, Josephine said she decided to quit the party claiming she had been ridiculed long enough and was hugely disappointed with some of her state committee members.

The 71-year-old, who had been with the party for 46 years, said her decision was not made abruptly but that she had been forced to do so after encountering challenges “she could take no more”.

She added that she would continue to serve as an independent and remain pro-Pakatan Harapan.

Loke said Josephine should understand that every decision the party took was either based on consensus or the majority voice.

“She is upset with the appointment of the Rasah New Village chairman as the Village Community Management Council or MPKK chief.

“So the matter was discussed by the state committee and through a secret ballot, seven of the committee members agreed with her choice of candidate while 11 others chose to support the incumbent,” he added.

Pakatan holds 20 of the 36 state seats. Prior to Josephine’s resignation, DAP had 11 seats followed by PKR’s six and Amanah’s three.
