‘Warisan is no alien party’

Shafie slams those saying it’s a group of illegal immigrants

Parti Warisan Sabah president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal has upped the ante against his opponents who alluded to his supposedly “foreign” origins.

Visiting this interior district about 200km from Kota Kinabalu, Shafie slammed Parti Cinta Sabah president Datuk Anifah Aman and Sabah STAR president Datuk Jeffrey Kitingan for insinuating that Warisan was a “party of illegal immigrants”.

The caretaker Chief Minister told the crowd consisting mainly of ethnic Murut folk here that the continued attacks based on such claims should stop, adding that he would not rule out taking legal action against those claiming that he was a Filipino, or that Warisan was for illegal immigrants.

Adding that those living in the interior were aware of the tricks used by the Opposition, Shafie said the people were aware that Ranau MP Jonathan Yasin, who is now deputy home minister, and Jeffrey (deputy tourism minister) were part of the Federal Government, should resolve the issue of illegal immigrants.

“Even various documents like the Kad Burung-Burung given to illegals was done by previous governments,” he said, urging the two leaders to act immediately to resolve the illegal immigrant problem.

He said Jeffrey could not accept Warisan and labelled it a party of illegal immigrants, yet he accepted members from the east coast areas to be with Sabah STAR.

Shafie, who is an east coast leader from Semporna, also told the crowd that the people of Semporna were concerned about the security threats posed by criminals in southern Philippines as it affected their safety and livelihood.

As a leader of Semporna, he told the people that it was ridiculous for anyone to think that he was working with such elements to harm his own people.

During his visit, Shafie also gave out native land titles to some 600 villagers, and announced that the state would absorb RM3.9mil in costs to allow the land title holders to defer paying land taxes until 2021.
