Positive case in Subang Jaya ‘inaccurate’

-

The positive Covid-19 case alert in Subang Jaya as seen in the MySejahtera app recently is inaccurate, says Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The Health director-general clarified that the employer of a positive Covid-19 case that was reported on Aug 10 had initially quarantined the employee at a Subang Jaya hotel while waiting for the employee’s Covid-19 test results, which led to the location being registered in MySejahtera.

“After confirming the Covid-19 test results, the registered address of the case was then moved to his home address in Bandar Tun Hussein Onn, Cheras, before he was admitted to the Sungai Buloh Hospital.

“This is important because every active case detection action and also close contact tracing was done at the place he lived, which is in Bandar Tun Hussein Onn.

“This location was then updated on the MySejahtera app,” Dr Noor Hisham said in a statement yesterday.

A viral message on social media on Friday had caused panic as it urged the public to avoid certain shopping malls in Subang Jaya, claiming that Covid-19 cases had been detected.

Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham said Malaysia recorded eight new cases as of yesterday, bringing total infections in the country to 9,257, with 183 active cases.

Out of the eight new cases, Dr Noor Hisham said three were imported ones while the rest were local transmissions.

The imported cases involved one Malaysian and two foreigners.

For the local transmissions, Dr Noor Hisham said all five cases were from the Tawar cluster in Kedah.

To date, Dr Noor Hisham said there were a total of 63 positive Covid-19 cases from this cluster, with 52 cases from Kedah and 11 from Penang.

As of yesterday, 2,942 people from the Tawar cluster have been screened.

From that amount, 2,414 people were screened in Kedah while 517 people were tested in Penang.

He noted that all 11 individuals screened in Perak tested negative.

“There are eight positive Covid-19 cases that are being treated in intensive care units, with four cases requiring ventilator support,” he said, adding that four patients had been discharged.

This brings the cumulative number of discharged cases to 8,949.

No deaths were recorded, with the death toll staying at 125.
