Azroy sizzles in the drizzle for fastest lap

-

A slight drizzle could not stop Idemitsu Honda Yuzy Racing rider Azroy Hakeem Anuar from flaming the Tangkak Racing Track ahead of Round 2 of the Petronas Malaysian Cub Prix Championship today.

The 21-year-old set the benchmark for the CP150 class with the fastest lap of the day at 44.031s.

Azroy made significant strides throughout the first day of free practice and qualifying. He went from 45.000s in the first free practice to 44.031s but could not rewrite the CP150 lap record of 43.804s – set by Mohd Haziq Mohd Fairues in 2019 at the 1.1km track.

“It’s great to be back in action here. Even though there was a light drizzle just before our qualifying session, the weather did not affect our race pace,” said Azroy.

“I followed my qualifying strategy to set a quick time early in the 15-minute window. On

a small track like this, it can get rather crowded as everyone tries to gain whatever advantage they can from the slipstream. I’m glad the strategy worked. I’m feeling very confident ahead of the Super Pole session.”

Azroy’s closest competitors during the qualifier were Mohd Akid Aziz from team Petronas Sprinta Yamaha Maju Motor Racing who clocked 44.050 and AHM Motorsports’ Mohd Iqbal Amri Abd Malek on 44.098.

Meanwhile, championship leader, Hi Rev SCK Honda Racing’s Mohd Helmi Azman, struggled throughout for provisional P8 in the qualifier, 0.143 seconds behind Azroy.

Helmi will have one final chance to better his grid position in the CP150 SuperPole today.
