British Council adult classes reopen

-

ALL British Council Teaching Centres and Professional Development Centres in Malaysia have reopened with adult classes running in Kuala Lumpur, Damansara and Penang.

Classes for young learners will continue online until further notice.

The council assured learners that the safety and well-being of students and teachers are a priority, and strict compliance with the Education Ministry’s standard operating procedure would be practised.

“Some measures we’ve introduced include registrations on MySejahtera app, temperature checks, the mandatory wearing of face masks, and social distancing at all times, as well as regular additional cleaning and sanitising of surfaces,” said the council’s Adults Teaching Centre head Sean Smith, 53.

English teacher Matt Beales, 34, said: “It’s been a lot of fun going back to the classroom.

“I think students really enjoyed practising giving presentations in a physical environment.”

Nurul Akma Helimi Mohamad, 34, a student who attended the class, said it was nice to be in the classroom again.

“The teacher’s body language helps us understand the language.”

A recent survey of British Council students indicated that 42% would like to return to in-centre lessons, 52% would like to continue their lessons online, while 6% are open to both options.

“So, we’re going to continue delivering lessons for adults both in-centre as well as online for the time being,” Smith said.
