A total of 219 people were issued with compounds, 32 were remanded while two others were released on police bail for violating the recovery movement control order (MCO), says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The Senior Minister said among the offences committed on Sunday were taking part in activities in pubs and nightclubs, not wearing face masks, trespassing at quarantine centres, failure to settle quarantine charges and activities that hampered physical distancing.

“The compliance operation task force conducted 64,929 inspections at various locations nationwide, including 4,805 restaurants, 1,052 factories, 3,631 banks and 649 government buildings.

“A total of 17,765 personnel were involved in the operations,” he said in a statement.

Ismail Sabri said the police also conducted 63 roadblocks nationwide as part of Ops Benteng.

“A total of 27,197 vehicles were inspected. Our main objective is to curb the entry of illegal immigrants,” he said.

On another matter, Ismail Sabri said more than 20,000 people had returned from abroad since July 24.

He said the returnees were placed at 74 hotels and four public training institutes for mandatory quarantine, except for 56, who were sent to hospitals for treatment.

“A total of 11,482 people have been allowed to return home while 8,917 are still undergoing compulsory quarantine.

“They returned from various countries including the United States, France, Australia and Spain,” he said.
