Wee: MAHB chief can steer aviation in right direction

-

PETALING JAYA: Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong is confident that Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) will be able to weather the hard times from the Covid-19 pandemic under the leadership of its new chairman.

He said this following a discussion yesterday with MAHB chairman, Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, on the direction of MAHB as well as the initiatives for the recovery period.

“Besides the 2020 Operating Agreement between MAHB and the government, we also discussed the directions of the MAHB and the steps that will be taken for the short and long terms during the recovery period post-Covid-19.

“The aviation and logistics industry were among those badly affected due to Covid-19.

“Therefore, there must be a need for a mechanism or proactive approach to be taken immediately to ensure the industry will continue to stand strong and generate income for the country,” Dr Wee said in a statement posted on his Facebook page yesterday.

Dr Wee also expressed his confidence that under the leadership of Zambry, along with his board of directors and management team, MAHB will be able to weather the tough times and move to the next level in future.

Also in the meeting were group chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Shukrie Mohd Salleh, group chief financial officer Mohamed Rastam Shahrom and MAHB stakeholder relations and regulatory affairs general manager, Datuk Abdullah Kadir Bacha.

On Aug 12, MAHB announced the appointment of Zambry, the former Perak Mentri Besar, as its non-independent, non-executive chairman.
