Well-judged wins for Hakim in MiniGP
PETALING JAYA: Mohd Hakim Danish Ramli showcased his potential as a future racing champion by coming from the back of the grid twice to win both races in Round 2 of the SIC MiniGP Championship at the Sepang International Kart Circuit (SIKC).
Hakim, who dominated the 160cc class in the opening round last month, started both races dead last – 12th place on the grid – after a crash in the qualifying session but the talented rider emerged triumphant on Sunday.
The plucky youngster slalomed past his rivals from behind to finish 18 laps of Race 1 in 17:04.229. Irfan Haykal Amidi was second with 17:12.462 while Amirun Haziq Johan completed the podium after finishing the race third with 17:14.586.
Terengganu lad Hakim stamped his mark once again in Race 2 clocking 17:01.706 while Farres Putra came in second (17:08.660) and Irfan finished third (17:08.814).
The 13-year-old Hakim said he felt that Race 1 was more challenging but he got into his groove in Race 2.
“I thank God for the first-place finish ... the first race was intense but the second was not too difficult for me to charge ahead,” said Hakim.
“I started the races from the back. I don’t think I was riding aggressively. My focus was just to do my best although I had a fall in the qualifying session earlier. I did not let the fall affect me.
“I don’t think it was too difficult for me to get in front ... I just looked at the starting lights at the beginning of the race and charged straight ahead once the lights went off.”
In the 110cc class, eight year-old Qabil Irfan Azlan also completed a double by winning both races after clocking 14:49.340 in Race 1 and 14:54.053 in Race 2.
Round 3 of the SIC MiniGP Championship is scheduled to take place at the same location on Oct 25 while Round 4 will take place on Nov 15. The closing round of the season is on Dec 6.
