Wee: Polls or no polls, govt will carry out projects
PUTRAJAYA: Projects will be carried out as planned and the government will continue to function regardless of when the general election is called, says Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
“To us, we need to complete our job. There cannot be a situation that with a few years to go (before term ends), we will expedite or delay projects,” he said after presenting star ratings to 79 driving institutes here yesterday.
There is talk that the general election may be held soon, just two years after GE14. The five-year term ends in 2023.
On the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL), Dr Wee said an announcement would be made once due process concerning the project was completed.
The ECRL alignment is divided into three sections - Section A from Kota Baru to Dungun, Section B from Dungun to Mentakab and Section C from Mentakab to Port Klang.
Dr Wee had told the Dewan Rakyat that the cost and environmental concerns were among the issues that must be resolved before the alignment of the ECRL could be finalised.
During an event to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ), he said PKFZ was on track to surpass its RM100mil profit target by year’s end despite the challenges brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Congratulations to the management and the entire PKFZ family who remain on the right track as it looks set to achieve profits above RM100mil as forecast by the end of 2020,” he said in a Facebook post.
Present at the event were Transport Ministry secretary-general Datuk Isham Ishak, PKFZ chairman Datuk Lawrence Low, PKFZ chief executive officer Loh Chee Can and Port Klang Authority general manager Capt K. Subramaniam.
