President under fire

KLHA’s Megat in double trouble with MHC for flouting rules

PETALING JAYA: Kuala Lumpur Hockey Association (KLHA) president Datuk Seri Megat D. Shahriman Zaharudin (pic) has landed in bigger trouble with the Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC).

Megat’s latest misdemeanour is breaching safety protocols at the ongoing Razak Cup competition, where he was seen bringing his family including children to watch the Kuala Lumpur-Negri Sembilan match at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Saturday.

Megat is currently under suspension from all hockey activities for breaching the MHC’s code of conduct over his statements to the press and MHC sponsors on the prize money for the Malaysian Hockey League.

Ironically, he attended the disciplinary board hearing just before the match.

The MHC are now ready to throw the book at Megat for breaching safety protocols in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic.

MHC competitions committee chairman Datuk Seri Anil Jeet Singh is not amused with the breach of protocols by a president of an affiliate despite clear instructions given during the team managers’ meeting on Sept 17.

Anil said Megat’s act of abusing the Razak Cup accreditation tags by giving it to his family members is a major breach of Covid-19 protocols and slammed Megat’s irresponsible act which could get the Razak Cup cancelled.

“We are ashamed of this incident as it was not easy to get the approval from the National Security Council (MKN) and the Health Ministry to hold competitions during the pandemic and now we have an association president wantonly breaching protocols.

“This breach of protocols may get the Razak Cup cancelled,” said a visibly disappointed Anil.

“It is quite sad to see a titled person and a president of a hockey association behaving like this. He should have known better.

“I have clearly said member associations will get 10 accreditation tags each which are only for officials. Children are strictly not allowed into the stadium.

“We are compiling all necessary information and will take action including lodging a police report.

“I have informed the tournament director and competitions committee secretary to gather evidence and I believe by Tuesday we can lodge a police report.”
