Nazim stays driven for the podium in British F3 C’ship
Nazim Azman (pic) continued his recent podium-finish form in the British F3 Championship, claiming more silverware at Donington Park to add to his previous top three finishes at Oulton Park and victory at Brands Hatch.
A race winner at the Leicestershire circuit in his rookie F3 season last year, Nazim had been disappointed not to step onto the rostrum on the 2020 series’ first visit last month but showed from the off that he could be a contender this time around by setting the fastest overall time in pre-event testing.
He went on to qualify sixth and managed to finish fifth for Race 1. He started Race 2 in reverse order and was placed 12th.
Undaunted, Nazim regrouped for the third and final race of the weekend where he claimed a podium finish in the end.
A good start saw the Malaysian driver keeping pace with the frontrunners and he was promoted to third place after Carlin teammate Kaylen Frederick was penalised for exceeding track limits in the 11-lap race.
“The weekend started really positively as I set the fastest lap time in pre-event testing.
“But sadly, I could not convert that into a pole position and qualified P5 and P6.
“I finished fifth in race one, which was quite good for the championship, but was then pushed off track in the reverse grid race, so I did not score many points.
“I started fifth for the third and final race of the weekend before managing to overtake a rival for fourth place.
“Fortunately for me, the car ahead was given a penalty, which meant I moved up to the final podium spot.”
“Overall, it was a much better weekend than the last two and I hope I can carry the momentum to Snetterton,” said Nazim, who is the only Malaysian doing four-wheel racing outside the country.
He made the top of the podium in the last round at Brands Hatch last month.
Nazim’s participation in the prestigious championship is made possible by sponsorship from Ranhill Group and he is also working with Peak Performance Management (PPM), which is providing specialist guidance and training advice.
The British F3 Championship will be contested over a condensed seven-round schedule, with the next round taking place at Snetterton from Oct 3-4.
