Cop detained for duping lorry driver over traffic summonses

A 45-year-old police corporal has been detained for duping a traffic offender with discounts for summonses.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal said the victim, a lorry driver, went to the district police headquarters to check if he had any pending summons on Sept 17.

“He discovered that he had summonses amounting to RM1,120.

“The policeman at the traffic counter told him that he could help to settle the summonses for RM500.

“He told the victim that he had friends in Bukit Aman who could obtain the discount,” ACP Nik Ezanee said when contacted yesterday.

Subsequently, the victim transferred RM500 to the policeman’s account.

“He promised the victim that the summonses would be settled within three days.

“After a few days, the summonses were still not settled so the victim lodged a police report at 3.15pm on Wednesday,” he said.

ACP Nik Ezanee said the policeman was detained about four hours later.

“A urine test revealed that the suspect is positive for methamphetamine. He has been remanded for four days,” he said.

ACP Nik Ezanee advised the public to check summonses online or via traffic police counters nationwide.

“They can do it online at https:// www.rilek.com.my or https://www.myeg.com.my.

“They can even check summonses via text messaging by typing POLIS SAMAN MyKad numbers @ plate numbers and send it to 15888,” he said.

He reminded the public not to pay their summonses at Traffic Accident Inquiry offices.

“Payment can be made at traffic police counters. An official receipt will be issued upon payment,” said ACP Nik Ezanee.
