Six nabbed and 61kg of ganja seized

-

Police detained six men, including an Indonesian, and seized 61kg of ganja worth RM154,250 in several raids in the city.

Wangsa Maju OCPD Supt Rajab Ahad Ismail said acting on a tip-off, police arrested a man at Taman Melati here at 3.50pm last Thursday and seized 5.1kg of ganja from him.

In a follow-up, police detained four men, including an Indonesian, in Kampung Baru here at 11pm the same day and seized 20 blocks of ganja weighing 20.5kg from them.

The following day, police returned to Kampung Baru about 12.45pm and seized a car believed to have been used by the suspects to store the drugs.

“On checking the vehicle, we seized another 35.6kg of ganja kept there. We also detained the vehicle’s owner,” he said.

Supt Rajab said their initial findings revealed that the suspects were actively involved in drug trafficking since August last year.

“The Indonesian suspect did not have proper documents and all suspects, aged between 42 and 57, tested positive for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and methamphetamine,” he said.

The suspects would be remanded until Thursday, he added.

He said police would be conducting more operations to track down the syndicate’s remaining members.

“We believe the latest arrests have crippled the syndicate, which has been active in the Klang Valley,” he added.

Supt Rajab said the police were grateful for the public tip-off.

He also urged anyone with information to contact the KL police hotline at 03-2115 9999 or the nearest police station.

Meanwhile, City deputy Narcotic Crime Investigation Department chief Supt Mohd Shokri Abdullah said they crippled a drug distribution ring with the arrest of two men and the seizure of over RM100,000 worth of drugs.

The two suspects, aged 35 and 50, were arrested in a special operation last Thursday at 4pm when police raided a condominium at Jalan Puchong, Taman Kuchai, here.

Police found 1.52kg of ecstasy, 82g of ketamin, 88g of ganja, 50 erimin-5 pills and 76 ecstasy pills.

“Police checks revealed the suspects have drugs and various crimes records,” he said, adding that they also tested positive for methamphetamine.

Both have remanded for five days to help investigations into drug trafficking.

Police believed the drugs were supplied to at least 1,800 addicts.

“The suspects have been active for over a month,” he said, adding that they operated in the Klang Valley area.
