PUTRAJAYA: Sabahans will not be allowed to do inter-district travel from tomorrow as measures are put in place to contain the Covid-19 coronavirus from spreading.

The travel ban will be enforced for 14 days until Oct 16 with the exception of those in the essential services.

Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said yesterday that the exception was given to those in the food supply and medical sectors as well as security.

He said the targeted enhanced control movement order (MCO) for Lahad Datu, Tawau, Kunak and Semporna remained till Oct 12.

Under the targeted enhanced MCO, residents will not be allowed to exit these districts and all businesses – except for essential services – will be halted.

Ismail Sabri said those who completed their quarantine would be allowed to return to their respective district.

“They will also be allowed to return to the peninsula, Sarawak and Labuan,” he said.

On Ops Benteng, security forces reported the arrest of 59 illegal immigrants attempting to sneak into the country.

Ismail Sabri pledged stern action against foreigners attempting to sneak into the country, including via illegal routes.

He also said that police arrested 98 individuals, including 10 for failing to settle their quarantine bill.

Among other offences include pub and nightclub activities (34), not wearing face masks (22) and for not practising social distancing (24).

“Police remanded three of the offenders while the remaining 95 were slapped with compound,” he said.
